A student must submit a request in writing to the NYIT College of Osteopathic Medicine’s Office of the Registrar (Long Island Campus, Serota Academic Center, Room 222, Northern Blvd., P.O. Box 8000, Old Westbury, NY 11568-8000) to be entitled to an official withdrawal. In the event that a student begins the withdrawal process in person, the date the student begins the process is the date of withdrawal. In the event that a student sends written notification of intent to withdraw, the date NYIT College of Osteopathic Medicine receives the written notice is the date of withdrawal or the date of the suspension or dismissal letter.
Depending upon the date of withdrawal, a student may be required to repay all or some of the financial aid received. If a recipient of federal Title IV financial aid withdraws within the first 60 percent of the financial aid payment period, a calculation will be performed to determine the amount of Title IV aid earned. Specific details of the adjustment to Federal Title IV Financial Aid awards will be provided to the student following the withdrawal process. A financial aid exit interview is required for all students withdrawing.
Refund of Unearned Funds to Lender
In the event of a withdrawal, suspension, or dismissal, the student may not have earned all of their Title IV funding. If the total amount of Title IV funding assistance earned by the student is less than the amount that was disbursed to the student as of the withdrawal or dismissal date, the difference between the two amounts will be returned within 30 days to the Title IV programs in the following order:
- Federal Unsubsidized Direct Loans
- Federal Grad PLUS Loans
- Other assistance under Title IV for which a return of funds is required
Financial aid students who withdraw or are dismissed will enter their grace periods or repayment status depending upon provisions of the loan.
